The album Extinction Event will be a compilation of the first several songs produced by the Dermestid project. Conceived as a loose concept album, it will be set in the impending American dystopia, and is poised to follow the trials and tribulations of a population set on edge as society careens headlong into an imminent, inevitable Apocalypse. Across the globe, humanity, bloated and corpulent in its excesses, chokes upon its own piling refuse as its numbers and avarice far outstrip its means and mother Earth’s ability to sustain it. Gray skies, thick with man’s emissions, blanket the planet in a suffocating shroud, drawing the air from the lungs of all terra’s children and imposing a global fever to burn out the human disease.

A bleak and battered landscape, blasted by ramping cycles of heat and storms of ever mounting intensity, plays host to two young roving wanderers seeking salvation in the arms of a last, unknown oasis hidden in the inhospitable bowels of our dying continent. We embark from the last willfully oblivious gasps of cultural indulgence on a journey through winter cemeteries, self-isolation, oligarchic exploitation, outright sweeping warfare over the last remaining scraps of sustenance, haunted refuges patrolled by the paranormal, the self-immolation of a reckless and desperate species, and finally the reclamation of Earth’s cracked and withered cadaver as life crawls blinking back out into the sun, free of humanity’s looming shadow.

The survival of humankind’s meager remnants depends on their ability and willingness to discard the trappings of luxury, extravagance and perpetual technological onanism and reclaim their rightful, humble place in the natural order; to meld back into the symbiotic web of life, the cycle of evolutionary birth and death that every species must defer to with humility, grace and dignity. Only then will our kind know peace and endure, and the biosphere achieve balance and fold the diverged descendants of Homo sapiens into itself.

Driving rhythms and aggressive instrumentality accompany our protagonists as they experience the decline and collapse of civilization as we know it. The end of the world is here, and a new order awaits to arise from the ashes of our doom. The scavengers stand at the ready to consume the flesh and scrape the bones of the writhing masses upon our descent into oblivion. Dermestid is here to compose the soundtrack to our extinction.
